It appears that by altering the expression of genes in the hippocampus, Selank may increase memory. Research shows changes in mRNA levels of 36 different genes after Selank was administered to rats. The majority of these genes encode proteins associated with the plasma membrane and can regulate ion-dependent processes in learning and memory [7].
